This is my first time renewing my passport since they started requiring digital passport pictures (a picture is taken and you get a retrieval code that is entered during the renewal process). I tried Fedex and Walgreens and neither of them had ever heard of it, but very proudly told me they could do British Passport sized photos printed out. Has anyone found anywhere that supports this? I am in upstate New York. I suppose I could make a trip of it and go to NYC and renew in the embassy, but it seems like it should be possible to renew online.

If you mean a British Passport renewal, you can take your own on a phone. It can be a bit of effort to ensure it matches the needs (white background, no shadow etc.) but I;ve done it for three now (mine and two other family members).

Google UK digital passport app and you will find several apps that will help you take a valid photo on your phone. Very easy, all you need is a white(ish) patch on a wall about 2ft x 2ft for the background. Hang a pillowcase, or whatever you have in a very light color if you have to.

We used the app 'Passport booth' on an iphone.
Worked flawlessly and only a couple of $$.

Thanks for the suggestions but the reason I was looking for in person is I don't have a smart phone and so can't take pictures with one. Unless I find a friend to do it for me, I suppose.

Ask Walgreens if they can provide you with a digital copy of the photo. They will have it when they take your picture, no reason why they cannot download it for you and send it to your email. Or, use a friend, it’s very easy. Better yet, get a smart phone, life is so much easier with one and they are not hard to get used to.
