Default A Different Credit Check Question

I opened a bank account with Wachovia over two years ago before I had my SSN. All I had to do was show my passport and they opended it.

I'm going into town in a sec to give them my SSN now that I have it.

Will the two years of banking activity go towards my number or will it start from when I add it to the account?

Checking accounts and/or savings accounts count diiddly squat at the credit bureaux or FICO, although they may give kudos at the particular bank.

You'll need credit card, line of credit, car loan or mortgage to get on the cart.

Probably don't count much for most things, but they are listed on your credit reports, and mortgage companies pay attention to bank account balances over the short to medium term.

Nope -- get down there, give 'em your social, then ask to open a secured credit card for $500. Then go spend no more than $100 on it every month, pay it off in full and on time. Gotta start somewhere...

Agree that mortgage underwriters will certainly want to look at your bank balances over time, but they are not available on your credit bureaux report -- the bureaux do not have access to this type of data. Hence, when applying for mortgage, loan officer will ask you for old bank statements.

Guess it's time to ask an in-law to co-sign for me so I can get a new car. I hate all this crap. I hate asking people to co-sign, especially when they hardly know me.
