Question Difference Between USA & UK King Size Beds?

I'm planning on going to the UK next month, and while I'm there will buy some quilt covers & sheets for our king size bed.

I think the measurements are 76 x 80, do we get the equivalent of that in the UK? What name should I go looking for?

Many thanks!

UK king and US king are nothing like the same size.

The largest UK bed, the super king, is 72"x78".

A 'standard' UK King is about the same as a US queen. It's 2 inches shorter but the same width.

Here is a chart:

That doesn't help since the OP doesn't have a US queen.

So, one line at a time, we get to the inevitable conclusion that you cannot buy bedding for a US king sized bed from a shop in the UK. A US king is about a foot wider than its British namesake, so nothing will come close to fitting properly or looking right.

...But you can get US size double bedding in the UK. Because another mattress of ours is Queen size and I have bought bedding from the UK..

Sorry, I don't know what that means?

Yes, a US queen bed is virtually identical to a UK king bed.

"Virtually"!

Granted, a fitted sheet for a 78" long British king mattress might be too short/ tight to fit on a 80" long US queen sized mattress

I gave up trying to fit UK bedding to US beds about 16 years ago. IMO US and Canadian bedding is crap compared to UK bedding...but just have to accept I no longer live in the UK.

So order a custom US queen mattress made 2" short, (3" to be sure). Sure they're not cheap, but not off-the-scale expensive either.

Exactly...which is why I want to buy from the UK (as I'm anyways going), plus I have found that UK has much much nicer bedding than the US and a lot more variety...

Why oh why do the US have to do everything differently? From the driving, to the roundabouts, to switches, electrical voltages, temperatures list is endless......

So you feel that the rest of the world should take its lead from and do everything identically to one little island? Good luck with that!
