It's difficult to get a B-2 visa if one is eligible to use the VWP. It's not impossible, but it's difficult...and if the B-2 gets denied, it can hinder using the VWP for 6 to 12 months after.

The US is not usually seen as a destination for getting your head together, either.

Take a look at the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentist..._United_States

Loads of info regarding the different dentistry boards in each of the States.

I just wanted to go away for a year to have some time to think and time to myself before I 'grow up' and start thinking about marriage. I've had a lot of personal issues that I have never really taken time out to reflect on and deal with. I know it sounds very cliche but I really just need some time to myself and I thought that I can't just go away and do nothing so I wanted to try working..
Go somewhere interesting instead....

Nope - you can't join any practice without taking the exams first anyway?! After I take the tests (I'm not sure exactly how long it takes to do them so anyone who has any info about it please post!), I would be just as qualified as any other American dentist, and can apply to anywhere in the US.
The thing to think about is dentists set up shop where insurance is, not many set up where there is a high % of uninsured. The smaller, quieter places are often the places where people have no or basic health insurance let alone dental insurance. Without dental insurance people rarely go to the dentist, even with it I know people who don't use it.

I wouldn't call it a shitheap, but definitely a pit of hell where one has to live inside, in the aircon for 9months of the year. Can one die from sweating too much?

Oh, and BringMeThatHorizon, I hope you like dentures and implants, and those types of things. The demographics of FL, especially during the winter months, is decidedly on the more elderly side.

Ah come on, you're a wuss. When you live here a while, you only need the a/c June to September. You basically become cold blooded like the local reptiles! 4 months sweat, 8 months pleasant. That's a pretty good ratio.

Good news that you know what visa you're eligible for!

...just a pity it doesn't actually exist.

Care to enlighten us on what visa you actually think you'll be coming over on?
