D.B.E. I joined yesterday... Looks like fun! There is a chapter about 10 minutes from my house.
Lunches and tea... Hmmmm, think I can handle that!

The DBE is a charitable, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian, voluntary American society of women of British or Commonwealth birth or ancestry. Its members are professionals, businesswomen and homemakers with common interests and heritage, who meet regularly for business and social events with the common cause of philanthropy.

Question Brigie, did they extend an invitation to you for membership, or will they just take anyone for a fee?
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BELONG? Membership is extended by invitation to women residing in the U.S. who are of British or British Commonwealth heritage by birth, naturalization or proven ancestry. Women, whose husbands are, or whose husband's parent(s) or grandparent(s) are, of British or Commonwealth birth, are also eligible.

They have their own bumper stickers. There's a Margaret Rutherford type British woman up the road, she's got one on her car. Strange, she knows I'm British but always ignores me if I say "Hello"

But what do they do . I mean, given that the Empire is a bit, er, smaller than it used to be. And why am I getting a mental picture of Queen Victoria? On the other hand, if they know how to make curry, I'm there.
