Re: Dating in NYC
I make my own money I am equal to a man I am happy for someone to treat me, but I don't get why a man has to pay just because he is a man rather than based on his ability to pay. I think it sets up a whole sexist basis for a relationship about man being the provider and women being subordinate.

I guess I wasnt clear I am talking about the general idea that a woman has to know how much money a man has before they even get a date.

I don't think it's about establishing equality in terms of provider and being a subordinate. It's all about making it a little bit harder for him to get in your pants. Not impossibly harder but when he goes out with you and he pays it's an indication that's he's actually interested and doesn't mind spending time and money on you to get to the end goal. Of course there are assholes that will do the same but it cuts down on the likelihood that you'll be with one. To me it doesn't set a precedent. JMHO.

But the US tradition does encourage more than a few American women to go out of their way to become rather high maintenance. There are more than a few practitioners of this art belonging to the Manhattan tribe.
Any guy who has dated here has come across those who have the service costs of a Ferrari but all the style of a Buick (cheap underbody with a few cheap shiny metal bits attached.) You need to be selective about your test drives here.

LMAO I just cannot understand how it take's a woman 2--3 hours to get ready there is only so much slap you can out on your face and lippy..
I dated a guy the other day and before we met he said that the last date he had was so heavily made up that he was scared to go near her incase the make-up went all over his shirt, he laughed and said she had so much mascara on as well that she could hardly open here eyes and as for the perfume that was another story...
I know you meant it nicely Britvic but its not blowing our trumpets its just that why not be ourselves and not pile the slap on!
I have a buddy that takes 20mins to put mascara on WTF

Okie dokie! Fair enough. I will be the first to admit that I always thought that my mom did too good of a job when teaching me about dating. I've come to the conclusion that I have some antiquated ideas in certain areas and it works against me in a modern dating world. However there are certain areas in dating that my mom doesn't need to know about.
