No, HE needs one actually. You're just supplemental. If he's got time after school for it then no more than 15-20 hours max per week. Fifteen is pretty good for someone in school.

My view is that people should pay relative to their incomes, at least once the dating "relationship" becomes established. Thus if one person has twice the income of the other, that person should pay twice what the other does.

Unhappy Re: Dating in NYC

My teenage son is dating a 'JAP' - or 'Jewish American Princess' as they call themselves around these parts.

She's very high-maintainance (which irks me somewhat) and she goes up to the mall with her mum every Saturday and invariably buys a new designer handbag from Bloomingdales (latest ones are Juicy Couture and Fendi)....I don't know why she won't get an identical knock-off from Canal St in NYC's Chinatown...

My son never has any money as he spends it all on his gf and she fully expects him to pay for absolutely everything...:curse: He's in love though and she's a nice girl, but I do wish she would make even a small contribution from time to time.

It didn't go down well with his gf and her parents when we persuaded our son that it was a waste of money going to the Prom last Summer in a limo and they went in our Volvo instead LOL!

OMG when I'm taking a shower after going to the aqua-aerobics class there are only a few shower curtains and most of the women have to stand and have a shower exposed to all and sundry (reminds me of secondary school, we all hated having showers after doing PE....)

Honestly, some of those women could definitely do with trimming their bushes LOL! (It can't be much fun for their guys if they fancy doing some carpet munching...)

Are the two girls I dated typical of New York girls?
Two things will send you home alone loveless with some women.

Being broke and unattractive or being broke and attractive.American women have a saying."They can do bad all by them self" Meaning, losers need not ask for a date.American(not all)women like comfortable surroundings,if you are a guy who can't provide a good life style or at the very least pull your own weight you will be tagged a loser.

Showing that you can treat a woman well by picking up a few dinners and/or drinks is just apart of being considered a man who don't mind being thoughtful, and it makes you appear to be a good catch. There is alot of competition in the NYC dating scene. Many women will care less about what kind of money you have but there are just as many who will not date you a second time if you appear to be cheap with your money.

It really depends on if she is use to a man spending money on her and how much she like being with you.She very well could be open to spending her money on you if her bank account is larger than yours. In other words there is no general rule for women any where in America.

I've seen beautiful looking women with ugly dudes who made average incomes, handsome broke younge guys with older women who have money. In NYC you will see every type of couple.I have a general rule,if she is more interested in my money and what I can spend on her, than the possible relationship we can have together,I usually point her toward the newspaper want ads where money from jobs can be earned. Then I stamp her dating application....DENIED!!!

One girl I dated said it was embarrasing to be seen getting out her credit card in a bar. She implied that it was demeaning to a girl to publicly pay a bar tab. She's very cute and really not high maintainance, and it would not really hurt my pocket to pick up the tab. But it seems so strange after dating British and European girls who prided themselves on their financial independence.

I can understand the comment about girls prepping themselves, and the outlay that involves. But some do more than others, and guys do that kind of stuff too. In these days of supposed gender equality, I can't really find a logical reason why two people with similar incomes should not share expenses on a date. (I know there are illogical reasons).

It must be a convention dating back to a time when men worked, and women didn't.

Here's the average cost of a days prepping for a date.

Haircut if needed $60
Mani-pedi $50
Garden work $20
New outfit $75
Mad money $40 (emergency funds)

So on average for the first date it comes to about $245. Some of the things that I mentioned aren't done by some. However the classier the dame the more she spends on herself to look good. Let's not forget the makeup supply that she has to keep stocked. All the potions she uses in the shower and after to smell like a woman. The time spent in up keep between appointments. Spending some cash on some nice lingerie so that the wrapper is nice all the way through. Very few women can look good au natural. The 99% percent of the rest of us have to do some work to keep you interested. We ladies are in competition with each other to be the one that gets that second look. It's aggressive and dog eat dog out there. We know you like to have someone who looks pretty hanging off your arm. We're a reflection of who you are as a men. We just do a really good job of making it look effortless. You guys only see the work we go through if you are living with your girlfriend, wife, or have experience with sisters. Even then we hid some of our beauty routines from you.

Just know there are days I wish I could roll out of bed at 6:30 and be ready and looking good by 6:45 but there's no way in hell that's gonna happen. Not if I have anything to say about it. You men have it easy in this regard.
