Default Dan Rathers Farewell?

"CBS News anchor Dan Rather will sign off for the last time on Wednesday but tributes to the 73-year-old veteran were mixed with sniping after his final months were marred by a scandal that tarnished his reputation...."

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...rc=rss/topNews

So what do you think of the old goat?

20 years too late imo. He read the news like he was hooked up to life support.

Why anyone would think they could depend on a news reader for the truth these days is beyond me. Instead of facts, they've shown themselves purveyors of propaganda to steer you into their objectives. fools the dull. Dan Rather is the motor mascot on the dustman's lorry that is today's journalism. No bitter tears here! Speaking of bitter, Where does one find John Smith's Bitter in the US?

Have to say that in the long article about him in last week's New Yorker he did come across as a bit of a pompous arse, but I think that all news anchors in this country have at least a bit of prima donna in them. The right wing have always had it in for Rather because he failed to be sufficiently deferential to Nixon and Bush Sr.

Hasn't changed much since then...

News anchors aren't the same as to what we're use to in blighty I guess...

And ol' Dan doesn't have much of a sense of humour either - on the CBS tribute to him earlier this evening he said he was narked when REM released "what's the frequency Kenneth" because the title referred to the occasion when Rather got mugged in New York.

What state? Here in Oklahoma, Mr Smith is not to found. I've been to the best of bottle shops in Tulsa and have drawn a blank.

It was the quote beneath that caught my eye... Our cousins like the Big statue, the wine and food from the French. France was merely tolerated because it was this source of the afore mentioned pleasures. French military weapons are popular here. "Never fired and only thrown down once".
