Customs declaration for shipping personal stuff back yo UK?
 

Hi All,

For family reasons I am returning to the UK after 4 months in the US on H1B, my former employer has offered to ship back any bulky personal items for me, which is a computer monitor, games console and pair of speakers.

What do I get them to put on the Customs declaration to avoid paying import duty and VAT?

There's some form for this that gets attached to the box; I used it when I moved to the UK. I don't remember what it is now, though. Someone in the MBTTUK forum or one of the immigration sites for moving from the US to the UK might know what it is.

If they're valued over x pounds and you've had them less than 12 months, you could be due duty.

The console, unless it's one you brought over from the UK with you, I'd flog it, not worth the hassle, especially if you use it online at all.

The form you're looking for is called the C3 customs form. You should be able to find it on the HMRC's website; you fill it out and attach it to your shipping box(es).

HMRC website is very good for this kind of thing if u struggle then give them a call :)
