I assume by “more” you mean a higher %, because they only have 11% of the the total legal US population. The US has many more vaccinated individuals whatever measure you use.

Update on my UK trip experience in case it useful for anyone.

I am using Qured for Day 2/8 test and day 5 test to release. It has worked efficiently so far. The 2/8 day tests arrived via Royal Mail 24 hour tracked yesterday morning and I mailed back the 2 day test today via included 24 hour label today by dropping it in a priority mailbox (which are marked with NHS stickers).

My only question is what if day 2/8 was a Sunday? Some Royal Mail postboxes have Sunday collections for Covid tests. but none near where I am staying. Can a Day 2 test be mailed back on Day 3? Can't find any information about this anywhere.

I have also found that UK tests seem to require both nose and throat swabs, whereas the ones I took in US were only nose .Self-administering the throat ones is a particularly unpleasant experience (instructions : "if you gag while doing this you know that you are doing it correctly. Do it five more times and then repeat on the other side")

No contact of any kind from any NHS person checking on quarantine status.

The whole checking up thing seems to be a bit random.

I really hope they put vaccinated people in the green lane soon. Only two covid tests (plus one to return) and no quarantine would be a big advance. Thanks for posting.

We are flying Delta. Still in UK at present so we have not taken the Binax tests yet. Hoping it all goes smoothly. Day 10 today and all other tests went well with no issues so keeping fingers crossed!

I just got back from a week's trip to the UK (I'm a dual citizen) and thought I'd share my experience in case it's helpful for others.

I ordered the day 2, day 8 and fit to fly tests in advance from a company called Healthium on the recommendation of a friend who also used them. Cost about 180 UKP and all PCR nasal swab tests arrived a few days before I did. The test results arrived within 24 hours of me mailing them in the Royal Mail Priority Post box. JFK was crazy busy, as was LHR T2 although I got through arrivals at LHR on Saturday night within 20 mins as my flight was the only one arriving at that time. JFK international arrivals was busy, but I have Global Entry and breezed through.

I flew Virgin and there were only about 80 people on the flight each way. Unfortunately on both flights, the crew were lax about enforcing mask wearing which surprised me. Test and trace in the UK phoned me every day to make sure I was quarantining. No visits. Although I'm fully vaccinated, I will take a PCR test 5 days after returning to the USA just to make sure that I'm all clear.

All in all, it was a pretty stressful and involved process for just one week, but seeing my 86 year old father for the first time in 18 months was priceless! Happy to answer any questions.

Chances of the US travel ban being dropped much before September sound increasingly slim.

A bit of a joke considering it's never really been based on COVID numbers...

Stupid question I know, but when do you have to book the covid tests that you will need upon landing in the UK from the US? I'm considering when to buy tickets, in the vague hope that restrictions will have loosened at the end of August and I'll be able to avoid quarantine and take fewer covid tests. Can I buy the ticket now and book the tests later?

You can book your travel without the COVID test booked, yes.
You need to have your tests booked prior to submitting your Passenger Locator Form, which in turn needs to be completed prior to departure from the US.

You can already select to end quarantine early with a Day 5 test. I can't imagine right now that by August you'll be able to have a shorter quarantine period than that based on current progress.

Thanks for the info, good to know.

I'm not thinking that the situation might change by August, but maybe by the end of August/ very beginning of September, so if I can wait a bit on the test booking etc that's good to know. The passenger locator form address will change, too, if I have to quarantine.

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me with some information.
Basically, I’m from the UK and my boyfriend is from the US, we’re expecting a child in December. I want to go over to America and spend some time with him and his family before I come back to the UK to have the baby. I also really need his support right now as this is our first baby.
Does anyone have any information on whether I am allowed to travel to the states?

Unfortunately not directly, you cannot enter the US if you've been within the UK in the previous 14 days. So you'd have to go somewhere else first for a couple of weeks before travelling to the US.

But your boyfriend could visit you in the UK, so maybe that's the best option? Or meet in a third country that you're both allowed in to.

Best of luck with the baby.

Yes but as others note if you are in the UK now you have to go via an allowable country for 14 days. It sounds like you are not married, if you are going to be in the US close to giving birth you need to make sure you have proper health insurance.. I had a couple in our condo in the city who had a very premature baby and I can only imagine what the cost of 2 months in the NYU NICU were.

It sounds like you must have seen each other in person around March, where was that?

Assuming your vaccinated, if you want a longer trip why not have him meet you for a 14 day baby moon in Mexico and then travel back to the US with him (assuming you have the right health coverage).
