Default Credit Unions

Hi, is there a credit union I can become member of online? I checked a few in my location but they are asking me to provide a drivers license. I am looking for someone that can do it online. Please let your good stories flow...

They're Mickey Mouse outfits.

All institutions, banks and CU's require "hard" ID information, per the USA PATRIOT Act, so opening entirely on-line may be tricky, if not impossible.

Unless you have a US government issued ID, and/or a SSN, have a US address (not sure if you're in the USA or not yet), it will be difficult to do anything online.

OK, that's a good start. I guess if you want to do it online and they are asking for a DL, then you'll have to wait until you have your DL or a State ID in hand. Of, if it's a local credit union, go in person with your documents and see if they can give you a break.

I'm a member of a FCU located in Maryland and I signed up on-line.

Don't know why you need a driver's license. A government ID should suffice, like your passport. That along with your utility bill should be adequate to open an account in person.

I believe that PenFed will do it on-line. They also have some of the best CD rates right now!

I joined Penfed online a few years ago, 2008. To become a member you can donate $20 to the National Military Family Association.
