Credit report and credit score

I am looking into getting a credit report with score, but most websites charge upwards of $40.00 for the 3 company report. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheaper way to find out this info?

You Don't mention where you are, but:

In Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and Vermont you are entitled to your credit report for free once per year.

Other states have laws which say how much you can be charged. See Here:
