Credit Question

Hi all.

I was looking to begin creating a credit history by becoming an authorized user of my partners Chase Sapphire credit card.
However, when adding me, it didn't ask for any infomation (address/SSN)? Do I need to be doing something else to make sure a credit file is created/maintained?

Thanks,

Mac

Re: Credit Question

Without an SSN nothing is being reported, that is the flag used to compile information into your credit history.

As Pulaski says, without your SSN it cannot be reporting. I'd be calling again to clarify.

Did you confirm with Chase that they would definitely report it? My husband is a second user on my Amazon credit card (issued by Chase), it's never shown up on his credit report.

She didn't give her SSN. Chase can't report it!

She.

266mac - you can get a secured credit card, load it up with some money and make sure you use it a bit every month, then pay back the difference every month for about 6 months. That should help build credit history. There is a wiki on this as well at the top of the forums.

True, but based on my experience, some companies don't report on second users anyway - SSN given or not.

The rules on authorized users keep changing too.

Right, agreed. It might work, but it might not. My guess is "not" because they didn't even ask for an SSN.

This. Without a SSN, they aren't going to report it as they have no idea on whom it should be against in the grand scheme of things. If a SSN was used, then it's 50/50

Re: Credit Question

Chase may report if the name that you add as an authorized user is someone who shares your address, then Chase will be able to use that name/address combination to report information to the credit bureaus. But if the authorized user doesn’t share an address, then that credit card information can’t be connected to the authorized user, so nothing gets reported.
