Credit history for house lease?

Credit history for house lease?
Hi there,
Does anyone have any experience of this? Several of the house lease adverts say something like "easy move in if you have good credit/lease history".... so this makes me wonder how awkward it will be for someone with no credit or lease history to lease a property in the US. Do you need a bigger deposit or something?
Cheers,
Doug.

Yes, same as anywhere. Landlords want to know you're going to pay the rent. If you don't have a history, you will probably need to offer a larger deposit, or rent in advance.
Or try private landlords, who may not do credit checking: www.craigslist.org

see if your employer will lease it for you, even if the cost comes out of your wages, then you don't have to worry about the credit history stuff

If you are coming to the US on a intercompany transfer then you may find that if its name is well know enough that the leasing company will take a company letter as your guarantee. Many of us who have done the same as yourself have not found that we have had to pay huge down payments. Landlords who are dealing with foreigners who are just moving to the USA will probably give us the benief of the doubt.
