It was Zappos my charges came from. 3 charges of $10 each. I've never bought anything from them.

we get alerts or phone calls very quick if something is suspect. and when my husband lost his card, he was able to get a replacement within 48 hours.(he did have to pay a 5 buck expedited fee) otherwise it would have been 4-5 days.

Not sure exactly where you mean by "here" but having the card "disappear" for several minutes is still the norm in essentially every restaurant that I go to in the Bay Area,

Got an email from my cc company recently about a suspicious charge, and asked me to call them. Called them around 6 pm, and told them it was a bogus charge. I received a new one by 9 the next morning.

Are you certain that there was fraud? Often pre-approval is obtained and they drop off when either the proper charge is known or they are canceled. many times my wife has thought that we have been attacked and asked me what a certain charge is for. If I don't know, she'll call the bank and they'll tell her to wait until it becomes a charge rather than pending and, sure enough, if she does that, the 'phantom' charge drops off and we know exactly what has been charged and when.

Point is, don't think everything is a fraud attempt. You will still have the bank's fraud protection if you wait until the charge is confirmed.

They don't. Its nearly impossible to completely prevent fraud, while the big names get the news coverage, the few times my accounts have been compromised each time was linked to a smaller business, so now I try and only use cash when buying from smaller places.

Sure, the charge could have dropped off before ever being applied, and maybe I am hasty when it comes to things like that, but really, they should never be touching my account, as I've never shopped there.

We've had a few issues in the last year with our regular account (first my card and then my husband's) and both times it was caught without our knowledge. Our bank (we have a credit union that I've been banking with for 18 years) was really good about getting replacement cards to us, over night in both circumstances. We're very happy with the service we receive from them.

When the Target breach was going on, Chase decided to replace both of our credit cards because one of us shopped there once. We were able to use our current cards until the replacements came.

Same thing happened with us. Phone call after business hours saying there was a problem. Doorbell rang the next morning with our new card. Spooky.
