I don't think one month is enough time to file bankruptcy. You have to file your papers, then you receive a date for a hearing no earlier than one month from your filing date, and you must be present for that hearing. The final discharge, if they give it to you, comes several months after that. The large credit reporting agencies here are international. I know that in the UK they can get information from them. I don't know about India though. Try looking for some India-specific information online?

I'm astonished that anyone should choose to run up a credit card debt of $35,000. :scared:

I hope for your sake you meant to type in $3,500 instead.

With wages being so much lower in India (even if you got a well-sought after job in a call centre) it's not going to be easy to repay your debts. Can your family help out in some way?

Maybe a Credit Counselling Center can advise you on consolidating the dept (maybe hard because you'd be refinancing the debt and have to show how you'll repay!) I think they contact the vendors and agree on a lower amount freezing the interest.Cambridge Dept Counselling is a non-profit one that is widely known and fairly reputable! 1-800-281-9922 -- Good luck!

Just thinking about it, he could probably buy a fairly large part of India with $35k, including a new identity! Actually seems quite appealing, apart from being in in India.

If I don't post again, you know why
