For all of our married life he has been on overseas business trips - right now he is in Geneva and immediately before flying there had been in London for a fortnight. It's true that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'.....and now with Skype we have free phone calls with webcams - yes we have video phone sex....it's a lot of fun

At the end of the day it comes down to trust and how strong your marriage/partnership is. I trust my husband implicitly and I know he trusts me too. I'm not naive....we lived out in Asia where many beautiful young women see a Western guy (married ones are no impediment) as a passport to a life free of poverty.

My husband was/is away about 60-70% of the time, working - and having to socialise - in places like Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bombay, Tokyo, Sydney etc..... and he's told me stories about the infidelities of his colleagues or other expats that would make ones hair curl. Not once did I ever worry that he would get off with a local Asian woman...he doesn't drink so doesn't do stupid things due to being drunk...in addition he's seen too many messy divorces due to his colleague's inability to keep their trousers zipped up.

I think you should apologise to Bradford Lass for making such an unwarranted assumption about her spouse. I feel sorry for you if you feel that you don't have the strength of character to stay faithful to your wife if you are on a long business trip.
Thank you, Hey I thought he was joking!

Does your interest list of travel and dogs have any relevance here

I've known people get into trouble with this in the US.
One guy I know who worked in IT didn't put on his cv that he also used to work in blockbuster at weekends for some extra cash. When a potential new employer ran a background check after offering him a job his blockbuster employment showed up on it and his offer was revoked.

I must have an innocent face. I don't think they've run background checks on me to that extent.

I also think that an employer who would revoke an offer because someone had a temp job that was not relevant to their professional career and so they didn't put it on their cv, is probably not a place I would want to work.

Agreed, but then again big companies are full of jobsworth nitwits just like that.
Before I came here I would have never dreamed of putting anything like that on my cv.

I always advised to be strictly honest but was gonna leave off part time work here , do they want to know that I was self employed a singer? thought they wanted relevance and only last ten years can they check what you have done in UK?

If its in the UK don't worry about that - i'm pretty sure that they weren't able to check any of my employment history as the agency they use got the results back to my employer within a day - so lie away i reckon.
I'm talking about your original point though of not taking a crap job cos it will look out of place on your cv - over heer you may not be able to leave it off like you could have back home.

Thank you for clarifying. Do they ever ask you to sign to say you will stay if you accept a job? my brother in NZ had to say he would work for a certain period or pay a penalty

Nope - i could have left after a day if i'd wanted.
I'm not sure if such a contract would be legal in the US or UK.

Regarding the singing - I'd definitely put it down on a cv. Shows initiative, time management skills and commitment (amongst other things). I put down the fact I play on a hockey team (shows teamwork etc) under "interests". I didn't get paid for it, so it really wouldn't fit well as a job
