Default Cost of living in South Carolina

We are moving to SC at the end of 2016/beginning of 2017 for a few years.

I've had a look on line at the cost of living in SC, how much things cost compared to the UK (which is getting more & more bleeding expensive every year) and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers?

As I say, I've already looked online but was wondering if anyone had any first-hand experience of living in SC? Cars are included in our package but am I right in saying insurance will be high for out of towners?

For info, salary will be circa $200k, I'm assuming this will allow us to live a fairly decent life...as long as state income tax isn't too high & things aren't too expensive

SC is among the cheaper states in the US, so you will be able to live like a prince in most of SC on $200,000. The sole exception that I am aware of would be Charleston, but on that money you could afford to live in an very nice part of town too.

Thanks Pulaski.

It wouldn't be Charleston, more mid-State area but that's good to know.

Oh, no worries then, .... mid-state you could afford the swankiest trailer in the whole county.

Just moved from Lexington SC after living there for 7 years. Very affordable but like most places here, second hand cars seem expensive (as is the insurance for them) and some food items seem expensive. However, at your salary you'll live like a king!

A British friend of ours has a house for sale in Columbia, SC: -

I live right on the GA/SC line and prices are very reasonable other than used cars. I make alot less than the figure you mention and get along just fine - of course you need to take into account the rising cost of health insurance etc too.
