Its a stitch up! There wasnt even an internal party election.

The UK didnt vote for him as PM, while I will shed no tear to see Blair depart, it smacks of cronyism.

I agree that it's a little strange there was no internal party election, however the UK didn't vote Tony Blair in either.

Well strictly speaking no because we dont have a presidential system but a parliamentary system. However it is the beauty of our unwritten constitution that the voters realise who the PM is going to be in a general election. i.e. the party head.

Brown squeezed out all possible contenders so that he got the job. If he had any decency and care for democracy he would call a general election straight away, otherwise I dont see how him and his cronies have any kind of mandate to do anything. After 10 years in office I think labour have no idea that the "people" even exist anymore.

It's not like USA where you vote for the president. The Prime minister is only PM because the fact that they are the leader of the party in power. The only possible options for my vote during the general election were Martin Horwood, Vanessa Gearson, Christopher Evans, Robert Hodges, Keith Bessant, Niall Warry and Dancing Ken Hanks so it's impossible to say that Tony Blair was elected directly by the people.

He's a Cheltenham local and member of the monster raving loony party. Does a lot of charity work and generally puts other people above himself.

Okay I know who you mean now, I just never knew his name. Certainly a more interesting character to have at No. 10 than dull as dish water Brown.

I have a feeling that good old Gordon may surprise you yet.

He is much more radical and socialist-leaning than Bliar.

I don't think he is going to poodle up to Shrub the way Tony did.

Hmmm, I think he's as devious as Blair but doesnt have the acting ability so he may well flop with the media / public. Not as much as a Thespian as grinning Tone.
And we thought we wouldnt have to look at his smug face anymore, looks like he's gonna be middle east envoy...
