Contacting DMV in Arizona
 

Does anybody know of a way to contact the AZ DMV without needing to quote an AZ driver license number?

I'm trying to find out the process & timescales involved for newly arrived non-US citizens to obtain a license - we're coming out around September time on an L1 visa.

Their DOT seems to have a half decent web site
http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/azwelcome.asp
you need only 2 forms of ID for driving licence application, passport with I-94 and SS card

Find the driving manual (it'll be a pdf download somewhere on the site) and print it out to read on the plane -- this has all the answers to the theory part. Pay special attention to the rules for teenage drivers -- they may not apply to you BUT they will be in the test.

Penalty points and drink/drug driving rules, they're usually the questions that get anyone as they're usually ignored as they're aimed at under 21 yr olds.

Oh, and to the OP, spouse probably needs EAD as proof for the drivers license and that takes up to 90 days to get. Might not be a requirement in Arizona, but it often is.
