I presume this means that a current prescription from a UK doctor wouldn't be acceptable? I just had my eyes tested last month.

I honestly don't know. You could try ordering and see what happens.

Not an issue if you order on line.

The OP asked because I had mentioned that when I order online with Vision Direct, they always verify my prescription (even if it was written two days ago) with my doctor.

Then perhaps it is just contact lenses for which verification is mandated (part of the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers legislation). I have never ordered glasses online.

I double checked, they do ask you to upload for contact lenses but not for glasses.

Vision insurance that i've seen here includes 1 check in a year... Why not just get them checked again and save the hassle?

I don't think that everyone is lucky enough to have vision insurance. I only get my annual visit paid for in recent years because I see an MD for my annual checkup.

Paid $60 at my local Walmart for a check up/ new patient assessment, not sure if my health coverage would have applied but with a deductible of $60 per specialist visit it was no more expensive going outside of insurance...
I may be lucky in that my optician is a retired New Yorker who's made his money up North and now doing his philanthropical bit in my local Walmart. The service far exceeded anything that Specsavers in the UK provided (and I was always happy with my UK optician).

Contact prices were on par with what I paid in the UK and only pennies difference in buying from Walmart instead of online.

Scoffers may carry on scoffing...

The online system certainly accepted mine...right up until the point that it worked out that the prescription had expired.
