Default Commute from Katy to IAH, Houston

Hi.

We are more than likely moving to Katy, Houston in July from the UK. My work is based beside George Bush International Airport.

Some people tell me the commute will be hell and others say it may not be so bad...my work runs a van pool from the area and I heard there is a "High Occupancy Vehicle" lane on the highway leading into town?

Can anyone fill me in on the approx times to travel from Katy to IAH around 06:30 and back again around 16:00?

Do the HOV lanes speed things up considerably?

Thanks!

I know the route but not at those times. It is a horrible drive, I would suggest you forget Katy and look for somewhere else.

Not sure exact times but it would be busy busy busy - Google Maps is saying 1hr 20mins - 1 hr 40mins in traffic. Have you looked over to the North East at Kingwood - it is a nice area and we actually considered a house over there until hubby's work told us he would eventually be moving to the West side of Houston. Maybe look at Spring or Humble as well as they are a bit closer in than The Woodlands. I would stay away from the 290 as the traffic is terrible which is unfortunate as there are some lovely developments up there. I fell in love with Bridgeland.

I don't think I would choose that commute but I don't think it would be the worst ever. We live in south-west Katy and I've often done the airport run in rush-hour traffic even without use of the HOV lanes. It normally takes about an hour and ten minutes.

Doug.
