Comfort Foods?

Re: Comfort Foods?
Oh dear - we hit a Heinz Treacle Pudding with Ambrosia custard last night about 9.30.....this could get dangerous....we had a few months in the UK back in '05 or '06, and our tracle pudding habit spiralled seriously out of control....we were up to 3 puddings a week at one point! But boy, they are good, especially when the weather starts turning a bit chilly (was below 50F last night!)

Fish and chips if I could find it : (
Hopefully going back to UK for Christmas, first stop after Heathrow is the chippy.

I once made the mistake of asking our local chippy owner for the recipe for batter so I could make it at home. I got the impression he'd have been less offended if I'd asked to sleep with his wife. And Mother. And Daughter. At the same time.

Re: Comfort Foods?
My husband and I made apple crumble for Thanksgiving instead of the usual pie, and we also made homemade ice cream with bourbon in it, because we can't ever agree on whether to use "whisky" or "whiskey" (I am a Scotch drinker and he's an Irishman, heh).

Hearty beef stew. I'll be making a batch this weekend.
I'm seriously considering adopting this as a new favorite comfort food:

Re: Comfort Foods?
There are lots, cottage pie, mac and cheese, rice pudding but the supreme is a suet duff, steak and kidney pudding although I won't say no to the pie, or a treacle pudding, or both.
When I was small, warm bread and milk was comforting, but it sounds foul now.
Soups and chowders always.

Belgian Chocolate Haagen Daaz ice cream (they don't seem to do it here - just chocolate, but it's not the same). It's just heaven in my opinion.

I've become accustomed to grilled cheese sandwiches with an egg fried over easy on top.

Re: Comfort Foods?
So now it's getting cold out, what kinds of comfort foods do you all like, or had as a kid?
Home made Mac and cheese has to be a fav here, especially with the kids.
Chicken or fish pie is definitely up there, but also fish/corn/clam/lobster chowder.
Chicken noodle soup for when feeling under the weather.
The missus really likes baked little weiner sausages in BBQ sauce, which I have to say is oddly pleasant and growing on me.
So what about you lot?

Also the HUGE stash of British chocolate taking up most of my salad drawer in the freezer courtesy of my Cousins

Re: Comfort Foods?
Shepherds pie, beef stew with mashed potatoes, curry, basically anything involving mashed potatoes I'm all over it like a rash.
At certain delicate times of the month I've been known to inhale a large bag of kettle brand salt and vinegar chips.
When I was a kid I loved toad in the hole, not sure that dish would transfer well in the states.
