Default Cold Callers

Jeez, will these guys give us a break!

Does anyone else have problems with cold callers, calling up to 10 times a day yrying to sell us stuff and give us credit cards.

I found this website, anyone heard of it, is it real and does it work, or is this just another way of getting the home phone number into the caller database.

This is legitimate. Tends to work for a while, but you may have to sign up again repeatedly.

And, of course, the idiots who call from India and SE Asia take no notice of this whatsoever.

It's real and in my experience it works. We went from 30 calls per day to 2 or 3. It won't stop calls from outfits with whom you have a business relationship (eg. your long distance provider pestering you to change plans), or charities and political groups. And yes, there are telemarketers who ignore the law. It did stop the calls from chimney sweeps, carpet cleaners, basement waterproofers, etc.

It's real and it works to some limited extent, in my experience. I use my cell phone more than my home phone, and I get a lot of calls like that on my cell phone, even though it's on the Do Not Call list. I don't answer any number I'm not familiar with. I don't have voice mail on my land line home phone, and all my friends know to call my cell phone, so I never answer my home phone when it rings. I suppose I could get rid of my land line, but I like to have it "just in case" I lose my cell phone or it doesn't have a charge when I need it in an emergency or something.

Oh I will try that link. We keep getting calls from various numbers I don't recognise. I tend to google the number and it comes up with where it has come from. 9 times out of 10 it's a cold calling number and other people have had the same problems. Very annoying!

Touching wood, but I rarely get cold calls on my land line, we are on the donotcall list, so that has definitely helped, I never get cold calls on my cell though. Recently I have had quite a few calls from someone saying something like "this is not a marketing call, we need to talk to you about recent activity on your credit cards" Goes on to list the cards, some I don't even have (discover) So I just hang up.

The donotcall list reduced the number of cold calls for us but does not stop charities, or commercial organisations working for charities. These folks can between them generate 6-8 calls daily. So I looked at the manual for our landline phone and found out how to block specific numbers. Works a treat. Check your manuals folks!

The government started the "DO NOT CALL" web site about 8 years ago when everyone was getting at least 10 unsolicited calls per day and on the day it became effective, the calls were immediately reduced to zero except for charities, political organizations, and businesses that you did business with.

Since then I've not had any problem except for occasional unsolicited calls until I moved and forgot to register the new number. When I did register again, the unsolicited calls stopped again.

Don't suppose anyone knows if there is an Italian version?

Once you sign up for the Do Not Call list, make sure you tell any cold callers who do happen to call (it takes a while for the calling to stop) that you are on the list. If the first thing you say is "do you know that we are on the Do Not Call list?", then I discovered that I received a very quick apology and a goodbye, sorry to have bothered you.

As others have said, it doesn't stop charities or for some reason I always got the political parties calling the house. Great fun to play with some of them with some radical opinions! Especially when I can't vote anyway. Ha, that'll teach 'em.

Push button. One even has a redial button!

I have one of the round dial phones, but I have it storage for safe keeping until it really becomes an antique!
