what's the benefit/difference between co-borrow and borrow on a home loan?

we are looking into buying house now and facing many applications.....we are sort of confused. what's in our best benefit? My wife has good credit and i have none (just got my ss in the mail) However, i do make income from online auctions/while looking for a job. we make about the same .......so we are wondering what would be the best way for us to obtain the loan.
