Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

Anyone know what the 'check progress' option is for?
I sent in form NI38 on December 2, 2019 (international mail, from US to UK). Still awaiting a response. But today, I logged in to the pension site just for grins, and happened to notice a 'check status' option. So I clicked it. This is what I see:
Now, the wording says 'sent online'; I may have submitted an online question but I don't recall doing so circa 13-Dec-19. The date of 13-dec-19 would correspond roughly to when my paper mail from 2-dec-19 would have arrived. Stupidly, while they are precise about the date of the 'received' event, they don't date-stamp their 'we have sent you a reply' event.
So I really don't know to what this is referring!
All indications are, if I sent in the paper form NI38 in early December, I'm being a touch optimistic thinking I may already have a response in late February.
Anyway - just wondered if anyone knows about this feature.
Also - for those who have submitted form NI38 - I downloaded the form and printed it on my US printer (letter sized paper), shrinking it to fit since 'A4' is larger. I presume they accept the form printed on A4.

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio
over a year later I got the letter from HMRC today to allow me to pay Class 2 for 9 years back to 2006/2007 (I had some years I had paid NI in the UK). Already have 12 qualifying years so going to pay these 9 and a few more. GBP3 a week seems like a good deal....
now I only need to figure out how to get credit for the years I paid in NZ and Ireland, and if it’s possible / better to credit to the UK or US.

the letter I got does not have an 18 digit reference. Can someone who has made these class 2 NIC payments advise where they got the 18 digit reference from?

So we paid our class 2 catchup contributions via Faster payments service a few months ago now using the 18 digit ref. Does anyone know how long for the contributions to appear on your account, ours have not shown up yet?
tried calling but long delays, which are totally understandable
thanks

Anyone have any hints on how to get it allocated to the right year properly when sending the payments? I have 3 more years to make to get caught up.

I did these things some years ago. The old-fashioned way. Letter and form with banker's draft. I am now reaping the rewards of State Retirement Pension. Stick with it and get it right.

After about a years wait to be approved for Class 2 NIC, I got a letter at the start of Feb 2020 detailing the amount per year for 7 years I can still contribute to before April 2023 , and 2 more with later deadlines. I sent 6 separate payments each for the amount listed for the earliest years between 2006 and 2016 from a UK bank account with the references advised (between GBP156 and GBP159. When I checked online a couple of week ago, only 1 year had changed status, 2019-2020, that now shows “Full Year” “Self-employment: 53 weeks” I called and after a few menus and a long wait spoke to someone who I explained the situation to and said he could see they had been misallocated, he said he would make a note, but it may take a few months to correct under the current circumstances.
Anyone have any hints on how to get it allocated to the right year properly when sending the payments? I have 3 more years to make to get caught up.

The follow up letter to the CF83 wanted my last UK employer, exact date I left the UK, and a list of all employers during that time I sent a copy of the boarding pass for the flight when I left.

I filled out form CF83 (which is the 'form' part of document NI38) with all the info requested, which included an attachment with every job I've ever had in the US, with start date/end date, address, company name. This seemed to be sufficient. My timeline (as explained in another post) was - submitted form CF83 2019-12-02; Got a reply circa March 2020, but did not wait for it - called in early march, and got the info I needed (confirmation of approval, and then the details of how to submit a single payment for all the years), then made an online payment from my UK HSBC account that same day. Went online a few days ago, confirmed all the 'years' got credited.

Ok, I’ll hold up my hands, I’m clueless about all this. I have however been making my class 2 contributions since I moved out here. Pretty sure I always get the letter around April with the amount I need to pay and how to pay it, but this year, I’ve had nothing. I assume everyone else that was expecting a letter have had theirs this year?
