I am planning on getting married to a USC.
Wanted to know if a civil wedding ceremony in my own country is considered a legal marriage in the US.
I stay in India.

Re: Civil Ceremony
It is sometimes possible to have a purely religious ceremony so long as it
does not make you legally married. (For instance, in some countries you must
be married in a civil ceremony and the religious one is up to you) but a
civil ceremony means you are married and, therefore, wouldn't be able to use
a K-1 visa.

A general principle of law is that a marriage is valid if valid where it was 'celebrated.' The US will recognize a civil marriage in India IF it is considered a valid marriage in India.
This is under the rubric of "choice of law." The US choice of law principle will be to follow Indian law.

If it is legally recognized in India, it would be legally recognized in
the US.
