Citizenship and Jury Duty

Citizenship and Jury Duty
I'm not yet a citizen (application pending) but today (Christmas Eve!) I received a summons for jury duty. Am I right in thinking you have to be a citizen to do this? The enclosed info suggests as much but the wording is a tad vague.
Merry Christmas all!

I got a couple of jury summons before I became a citizen. Return the form stating you are not a citizen. I followed that up with a phone call a week later to make sure that had received it.

Thanks guys - never got called in all my years in the UK - looked at your links BritinParis - the second one suggests that I would be sent ascreening questionnaire, even if my name was pulled from driving lists. This I did not get. Someone doesn't have their records in order. I'll follow your advice lansbury,

Re: Citizenship and Jury Duty
I am a USC but live outside the US, and they even send jury summons to other countries, where they got my address haven't a clue.
Luckily there is a box that say's not residing in the US that one can choose to not have to go.
Been summons to jury duty more since leaving the US then I ever did living there, twice a year on average.

Re: Citizenship and Jury Duty
My wife and I have been called for jury duty many times since moving to Montgomery County, Texas in 2004 (never in the 6 years we had been citizens in Baton Rouge, LA). We travel a lot since retiring in 2010 and twice my wife has received a jury summons while we were out of the country and the form does not give that as a possible excuse so both times our son has contacted them on her behalf. First time they accepted a phone call, second time he had to write a note to them which amused him since she has has written excuse notes to school from him in the distant past. I've been summoned twice since retiring but both times in the winter.
In January we move back to the UK for good so it was interesting to hear that we still may get a summons to our UK address.

Mrs P has been called twice in the last ten years, attending court on both occasions but not making it onto an actual jury.

Re: Citizenship and Jury Duty
I have been selected to attend court 4 times. Once the case was settled 30 minutes before the hearing and when I turned up to the courtroom a worker was there to inform us we weren't needed and to hand out the court papers to give to our employer for the time off we'd taken. I went through the jury selection process 3 times, with lawyers explaining the case and questioning jurors, and was selected to serve just the once.

I get at least 2 summons a year - they just go by DMV records. I send back the form and follow up about a week before my date to confirm that I'm excused from duty. Clerks are always nice whenever I talk to them
