Default Christmas Presents

Each year we buy presents for about 18 people in England (mostly kids younger than 10). And each year the postage kills us. It always costs more than the presents did. So this year we are looking for a better way. We've considered just sending banker's drafts or something, but is there an alternative? Cheques arn't much fun. What does everyone else do?

Hi Patrick,

Where do you go? We looked and found Argos, Index, Debenhams, etc. but none of them appeared to gift wrap.

One place which definitely will offer gift-wrap is http://www.amazon.co.uk (they don't just do books, CD's, DVD's etc. but a whole range of stuff such as toys & gifts. Unfortunately the gift wrapping service isn't that cheap!

Although I'm flying to the UK this Christmas, I'll be missing one of my husband's pre-Christmas family present-swap get-togethers (they live in Wales, Suffolk, Hants & Essex) and will order everything on-line for them to arrive at my brother-in-laws house. We will hopefully collect stuff for ourselves on Boxing Day!

You might want to look at the Discussion Board (on Britnet - thread is "Shopping Help") at the similarly-named website:

http://www.british-expats.com

There is a current thread about Shopping with loads of links to British websites eg. Lush, Boots and all the charities which sell gifts online, and the thread from last year is here (you might need to register with the site to read it though).

http://www.british-expats.com/phpBB/...ic=208&forum=1

Hope this helps! (Come on over to the site anyway all you Brits, and say "Hello!")

Try these sites (I have not tried them so this is not a personal reccomendation)

http://www.johnlewis.com/stores/store.asp?str=931

http://www.buyagift.co.uk/cgi-bin/bu...productid=1057

http://shop.santa-claus.com/uk/

and of course amazon.co.uk (they definetly do gift wrap)
