When my kids were in school uniform I found Sears to be good, but that was a while ago, also LLBean online for outdoor stuff.
Also when they were younger I loved Gymboree and Gap, now it's Abercrombie and Aeropostle.
Love Target ( we have several Super Targets within a 30 min drive...bliss!!)
and TJMaxx for all those bargains (got a Coach watch for more than 65% of the RRP the other day )

I always head to The Children's Place when i'm in the US to stock up for my sons and nieces, as their stuff is lovely. I don't find it particularly cheap, but I think it compares to Next, definitely.

Used to love Gymboree for my little girl, but she's 8 now and has outgrown that.... I like Children's Place, and bought a bunch of stuff for her there yesterday. The prices are pretty reasonable, not overly expensive like Gap, although I like some of their stuff. The trousers aren't probably the best quality material, but when I pay $10 for them, I guess I can't complain too much. I do like the styles they have going now for girls.

No kidding. Just to illustrate, here are a few vacation pics showing a typically dressed Englishwoman and her friend mixing with the locals during a visit to the States.

when I buy baby or children's clothing gifts, I mostly buy them at Kohl's. They have very nice clothes for kids.

Hmmm..yeah, I don't think the pics were taken in the US!

And mayhaps they got the dirty looks because they were holding hands!

lol, 3rd picture.. that woman's face is priceless!

Hey, how come Hanna Andersson hasn't ever been mentioned? These are the coolest kid clothes around imo. And everyone will know you are a Euro family.
Saw a herd of them in Lowe's yesterday, bless their cotton stripped leggings.

My kids are young adults now but I loved the childrens' clothes from Next, M&S and often even the Ladybird brand from Woolworths.

American fashions are very boring/bland and middle of the road, but places to buy reasonably priced clothes for children include 'The Children's Place', 'Gymboree' the "Limited Too" (also some others but their names escape me!) and of course clothes from the Gap, Babies/ToysRus, Target and department stores like Nordstrom, Sears etc.

I know that quite a few expat mums are buying clothes by mail order from this place:

http://www.hannaandersson.com/home.asp?cchkrd=y

and also mail order from LL Bean.

Don't forget to see what's in Marshalls and TJ Maxx, it's hit and miss but often they have really good stuff in at good prices.

I too shop Marshalls T J Max and Ross. But they take a while as you have to really spend tme looking through lots of racks. Our Marshalls has the best kids shoes. We go there first, I've bought Stride rite and Carters from there.
OR do what we did this year, go to UK on holiday and go nuts in Tesco Asda Marks and Spencers and Next.
M&S ships worldwide.

Load more choices for girls...anyway, where in CT are you? Bound to be a large outlook mall somewhere nearby to get better deals.

I think you just answered a question that had been torturing me...

Well maybe "torturing" is a little much, but I did wonder.

Occasionally some of those sweaters do come off a bit to Scandie for me, but I do love the soft cotton underwear and opposite stripe day wear playwear dresses for Dd They stretch like crazy around the middle and last forever, I like them matched with solid coloured leggings not the stripe ones.
We end up using the strip ones as Pajama bottoms sometimes.
Dd has one long sleeve stripe dress she's been wearing for three years and it still looks good. She may still fit it this winter.
Here she is in it this summer in UK.
