Child support Tax question
Not quite sure how I stand on this however here is a question for any tax experts out there.
I married my current wife in November last year, however in January she received notice to pay back child support for the previous 2 years amounting to 7k.
January we filed a joint tax return with form 8379 to protect my portion of the tax refund (Why should I pay for her debts that were gained before the marriage).
Anyway I now received a letter saying that the Attorney Generals office or Agency has intercepted my payment.
question is this normal, why am I having to pay her past debt, is there anything I can do to get my portion back.
