Default Child passport renewal.

My daughter has both US and British passports expiring this year with in two months of each other. She is 12 and realistically we won't be going anywhere until at least next summer. Funds are a little snug right now as I'm in college. Is it possible to apply for her UK passport with an expired one at the end of this year? We live in the USA.

You have approx 10 years to apply for a renewal. After that it is treated as a first time application.

Just renew her US passport for now. As a US citizen, she is required to leave/enter the US on a US passport. The US passport will also allow her to visit the UK. You can renew the UK passport later when money isn't as tight.

It's less time than that now, maybe 5 years?

HMG has stated its intention to introduce a ETA style scheme for the UK post-transition period so depending on how that is implemented all British citizens may be required to enter the UK on a British passport from 2021. As such I would aim to renew your daughter’s passport by the end of this year.
