3. Hinsdale, Oak Brook and Burr Ridge: extremely expensive, very good location, huge houses, great schools
4. Elmhurst: developed, fairly expensive, yuppie/commuter-ville.
5. Wheaton: actually feels like a "real community", very (very) Christian and Republican, very family focused, excellent schools, mid-priced-to-expensive.
6. Naperville/Aurora- booming expansion, lots of huge tracts of McMansions, great schools, thriving downtown (in Naperville), Aurora is further out and cheaper.
7. Carol Stream/Glendale Heights/Villa Park/Bolingbrook/Roselle: fairly non-descript cheaper towns with not very good schools.
8. Bloomingdale/Itasca/Addison/Downer's Grove/Lisle: fairly non-descript mid-priced towns with good schools.
9. Medinah: tiny and pricey.

Excellent information on Chicagoland. We lived there for 25 years, initially in Hyde Park on the South Side and for a few years in Glen Ellyn a western suburb. We then moved for a dozen years to the New York area before retiring to the South. If it was not for winter weather I would move back to Chicago in a heartbeat. Luckily we still visit frequently to see friends and our son who lives walking distance from Wrigely Field.

I presently live in not so sunny Suffolk, I wont miss the drizzle from here, I guess at least the weather does it in extreme form over there rather than the general insipid stuff we get here.

We had the opportunity to live in Chicago in '94. Loved the city but didn't like many of the surrounding areas...housing estates as far as the eye can see...all centred around the church and club house. Too many people trying to talk us into going to church for my liking.
