I hope everybody out that way is OK.

It sounds like a wicked mess.

luckily my OH came into Chicago today to pickup some hardware from my office so we were able to drive home... the trains were screwed.

took us 2 hours to get within 5miles of our house.. then another 2 hours to actually get to the house as every street we knew was under water... had to circumnavigate the area looking...

at one point we got within about 300 yards and would have ended up stuck in 6ft of water had the car in front not sped directly into it and submerged itself...the police were dragging that car out when we left.

just got home now having set off at 3:30.

fun fun fun.

Crap. We're supposed to be driving up to Madison tomorrow via Chicago. Hopefully the roads will be OK.

Well the only tree down I saw was our own, in our front garden, 4th day the house is on the market and all. grrrr

No flooding around here, though, we're on slightly higher ground than USBound (glad you two are safe! That was a lucky escape you had with your car!). Almost tempting to go and see how the Fox River is doing though.

ahh.. the joys of working from home when I need to... emailed in already... give the system a few days to sort itself out before I use the trains again... and they just informed us that our buildings basement has filled with water thus disabling the lifts...

It was an... interesting night. The sky went turquoise green at one point with huge "wrath of God" type swirling clouds. There were Zeus' own lightning strikes every few seconds and several feet of water on many streets. Tornados apparently touched down on Lakeshore Drive (this is sort of equivalent to a tornado touching down on Fifth Avenue) and flung giant trees around. Electricity went out for half a million people, all of the traffic lights still aren't working.

The best part is, yet another round of violent storms is expected this afternoon. It has basically been pouring rain here since last Friday. :curse:

I finally found a tree service that can come out today. Touched base with my estate agent's office and one of the assistants lives in Wheaton. She lost five trees yesterday! She said her husband was working from home, and saw one tree sailing past the upstairs bedroom window. Yikes! He got their generator working and was up every 3 hours or so to make sure it was still running (gas-powered).

Our sump pump has been gurgling away non-stop since yesterday.

Still... at least the lake at the back of our house, which dried up over summer, has made a reappearance.

Glen Ellyn Service Crew will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Chicago storms...

Glen Ellyn was hit pretty hard, several of my neighbors are still without power, five of which are stayting in my basement tonight!

Worst part of the storm was it did not wipe out Wheaton and it's bible bashing freaks!

Anyhow this storm may be a great lead up[ to the first meating in over 20 years of the Glenbard West and South tomorrow. It will be the GESC first outing since Stoke in 2001, up for a big row!

Well, that's true.

Anyone else been here long enough to remember the rains in April 1996? That was my first springtime here. It rained something nutso like 19.6" in 24 hours! Friend of ours has "fond" memories of floating downstream along 75th Street. I got to Ogden and Eola and turned around, less than 1 mile into my journey in to work.
