Hyde Park's OK, but I wouldn't live there with a family. It might make more sense to look at North Side neighborhoods and commute via the El. I would ask some of the professors that live in the area.

Its on the south side and is less than 5 miles from the Cell, unless we are talking about 2 completely different University of Chicago's (or 2 different Cell's for the matter).
