Cheese & Onion Crisps in USA at last
 

Brought these at Costco yesterday and they taste almost EXACTLY like cheese and onion... Made by Lays... :)

Really? Fantastic - must go and find them now.. OH rations the crisps I bring him back to one bag a week. This will free up much valuable real estate in my hard sided carryon! More Battenberg!

They are just wrong!

I'm disappointed that the Lays Salt and Vinegar don't taste anything like the Walkers Salt and Vinegar. All the Salt and Vinegar ones here burn a layer of skin off your tongue :ohmy:

Maui sweet onion chips (crisps) have been on sale here for years but different manufacturers, I used to buy them in Oregon, I now see that flavour all over the north eastern states. After a while you realise they don't actually taste as good.

Agreed! I had to use Carmex for a couple of days on my lips after eating some. I can't see that they will sell well.

And why we are on the subject of great foods. Here's my tricks to eat like a BRIT, in the USA, on the cheap(isn);

1. Many local Indian store sells British Foods for much less that any other outlets. For instances, 4 large tins of heinz - $5. Brown HP - $3.99, Pataks currcy sauces - about same as UK. Great spices to make your own curries easily sell for under $1 v $4-$6 elsewhere
2. Awesome LONG lasting British Cheeses at Coscto.
3. I've made the switch from my life long typhoo/pg tips bags to ones sold in Indian store (Indians like strong tea and after all, most tea comes from that region(s). http://www.amazon.com/Tapal-Danedar-.../dp/B006R1M6I0 - I buy a bag of 300 of these for about $11 locally in my india store. My kids love them and they are tea-holics like me!
4. Turkey Bacon - I buy from Trader Joes. Not only does it taste better than American bacon, it's totally great in a roll with HP sauce. I buy the non-preservatives totally fresh and only turkey breast. (AppleGate farms).
5. Brinjal pickle. If you like spicy but not hot pickle. Mix this baby with some non-fat greek yogurt for an awesome DIP that will blow any US dip out of the water - and be healthy(ish)..

Many Chinese grocery stores stock British products too, often manufactured in the Far East (former British colonies).

For expats in northern New Jersey a good source of finding British products (I guess from a link to the colonial past) is the Indian expat enclave known as 'LIttle India' near the Metropark, just off the Garden State Parkway. There is a long road called Oak Tree Road in Iselin with dozens and dozens of Indian grocery, jewellery, sari and sweet shops - and of course lots of restaurants :)

I've enjoyed scouting around the grocery stores as you can find some British items eg. Lucozade, Ribena, Heinz beana, McVities biscuits, Bird's custard and Pears soap, Camay etc. etc - although some of it is produced in India under license. Just watch the expiry dates. Spices are much cheaper. It's a little like being in Southall lol!

The Chinese grocery store (Kam Man) which sells Asian produce from East and South East Asia also sells some familiar British items produced in the old colonies of Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. They have branches in NY, NJ and MA, although I've only been to their large stores in Manhatten and East Hanover, NJ:

H Mart is another decent Korean grocery chain. The one in MA is right next door to a massive Trader Joes in Burlington and it's fab and has a randomly great Brit section.

So many Indian grocery stores around MA too, but a lot of them are hole in the wall looking places, sometimes in shifty areas that you don't notice, but they're fab when you check them out. For the Brit goods, it's always a random selection though and not something you should rely on and weirdly some of it is Brit stuff that has been imported to India and then imported to the US, stuff like Detol, Birds Custard etc, usually for a couple bucks.

Our local oriental food store stocks prawn crackers which can be hard to find.
