Check reordering?
 

So, i'm on my last check book and this is the first time i've had to reorder (don't really use them much), I just went to reorder through the bank online (BOA) and they don't show any prices until after you have placed your order :huh: I want to know how much they cost before I place any order!
Anyone got a good company they use? I had a quick look at artisticcheckonline but i'm not really sure how much I should be paying for this service (ticks me off that you have to pay at all)
What do you all do?

I went into BOA and they waived the fee - worth a try? To be honest we hardly use checks at all these days!

yep my cheques are free with wells fargo bank however i hardly use any....

Might be worth a try! I don't use them much either, but don't want to be without any, I can't even remember what we paid last time, it was so long ago!!!

Yeah, I have BoA and they don't charge me. I find the jedi mind trick is the best approach for getting round their silly fees

I don't think it is very much, but give them a ring and you'll find out. I think it is $12-$20 for a big box that will last a few years (especially since nearly every bill you have can probably be paid without a fee online--cheaper then the postage stamp).

Are you doing this via the BOA site? When I do that it takes me to clarkeamerican.com which gives prices in advance.

Save your dosh... grab some cocktail napkins, write your bank details on them and pay to the order of whomever... better yet, go to your branch and say "I'd like to cash this napkin please."

I've usually threatened to close my account unless I get the checks for free. Rather than have them sent in the mail, I usually see if I can pick them up at my branch.. b/c once I had a check book stolen from the mail box and some person was writing checks on my account... not fun.

depends on where you get them, the style of cheque etc...

$10-25 a pack...gets more pricey if you want the carbon counter foil thingy etc.

I think something that most people dont realise is that you can get your bank to write and send the cheque for you for free. BofA do this and I am sure that if my little credit union bank can do it any and all banks will.
Their idea of online bill pay here is a bit victorian. I think most people think that there has to be some electronic connection between your bank and theirs. In general though when you go to bill pay on a bank's website there is an option to just write the name and address of the person you want the cheque to go to. You can write anything here account numbers are optional.
So say you want to send a cheque to your friend, you can just write their name and address and they will receive a cheque from your bank and it costs you nothing.
Its the electronic information age you know. You log on fill in the details, the bank prints a cheque onto this stuff called paper (mostly rendered obsolete in more advanced countries). This paper with number printed on it is then put in an envelope with something called a stamp printed on it. This envelope is then delivered on a plane or in a truck and actually given to a little man in a truck who physically brings it to your door. Of course to many people in the developed world where all this kind of stuff happens in an instant electonically it may seem strange to think people actually physically handle these pieces of paper but that's how it works here. A sort of victorian 21st century amalgam of technology.
I make a point of NEVER writing cheques. If someone wants one I go online and have the bank send it. The other good thing is that my cheques can never bounce since the funds are guaranteed by the bank and if I know that it has been sent for sure since banks are infallible.. haha.
The only problem I have had is having at least two cheques lost in the post but at least I know its not my fault!

Billpay on most of the large companies is sameday electronic transfer now- and the check writing can be a mare and take ages from the experience i had with it - like you i dont really write any checks these days though!

but my point was that you never need to actually write a check. OF course the big companies have electronic transfer but for small companies, friends etc. you can use the online bill pay from your bank usually as long as they actually allow you to enter the name and address and will physically mail the cheque for you which most do I think.
