Where abouts are the lay overs? You might get decent rates if you had a stop over in Canada, or if you flew into Milan and connected over from there, or France, and seen some good deals for flights into Ireland.

And try getting tickets direct from the air companies, you'll probably find better rates.

Do you need to fly into Kalamazoo? If you can drive a few hours or have someone pick you up it will be cheaper to fly to Detroit or Chicago. Checkout the usual websites Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, but also check individual airline websites. Increasingly the best deals are from the airlines own websites. American airlines for example flies non-stop Manchester-Chicago.
Having said that, 745 pounds for two doesn't sound too bad to me.

It looks to me like Kalamazoo is about half way between Chicago and Detroit however youre also not too far from Grand Rapids so how about looking at flights in there too.

Just had a quick lookie on expedia.com

MAN-DTW American Airlines $1,051.38 (£604.28)

MAN-ORD United Airlines $1,172.42 (£673.80)

exchange rate as per oanda.com £1 = $1.74

Both flights are direct ..

Well....the cheapest price you have found is the trade-off between price vs convenience!

For convenience you could take the non-stop British Airways flight from Manchester to Chicago and then an American Airlines non-stop directly to Kalamazoo. You would clear immigration and customs in Chicago before taking your internal flight but you can quickly re-check your baggage if flying in from overseas.

The cheapest option is to take American Airlines, but unless you can be flexible on your travel dates you would then have three flights - I've seen connections from MAN to Boston, Boston to Chicago then Chicago to Kalamazoo, or flights with AA from Manchester to London Heathrow then LHR to Chicago and finally Chicago to Kalamazoo.

The only problem is that with three flights you are screwed if there are any delays caused by weather (should be OK in April/May though), air traffic control, equipment failure and replacement.......or even passengers spending so long in the duty free shop or elsewhere in the terminal and late for boarding or worse, if their suitcases have to be offloaded.

The cheapest flights I've seen were to book directly with:

http://www.aa.com

(there is an icon to press for UK residents but the fares were still coming up in US$ which seemed cheaper than the price you quoted in pounds.

You could try ebookers.com or travelselect.com or Opodo.co.uk.......however, once you book online with one of these companies they are useless if you need to change your flights for any reason as you will almost certainly be speaking with someone in a call centre in India and pushed from pillar to post - you're better off booking with an airline directly (and yes, some of them do have call centres in India too but at least being the airline's reps you won't get such a scripted response LOL!).

Don't forget that British Midland Airways also flies to Chicago....see

http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/index.aspx

The cheapest fare of all may be if you choose to fly from MAN to Chicago (certain days of the week only) with Pakistan International Airlines and then an AA flight but somehow I don't think you would fancy that LOL!

Don't forget travel insurance!!!!!

American Airlines & British Airline, BMI, compete on Manchester - Chicago.

BMI code-shares with United.

If it too expensive to fly into Kalamazoo, consider renting a car at Chicago. Chicago - Kalamazoo is about 3 hours.

Welcome to the board!

Jim.
