Buy a used boxtruck, move, and sell it when you get there. I know some people who did that and it worked out very well, but I can see where it could go horribly wrong too. Either way you'll have a story.

Hubby and I have moved 5 times in the last 3-4 years. Twice we were moved by employers. The company used was Planes. They have franchises in various areas - the ones we used were in Ohio. As another poster mentioned, they aren't always so bright. If it ain't nailed down, they'll probably pack it. In both instances, we moved about 200 miles from our current location. The first move cost my employer about $5-$6k. The 2nd move was approx. $7k. We didn't have that much more stuff (I believe in a thorough cleansing before a move) the 2nd time, but still cost a somewhat more. But we did pay for some extra insurance. The basic insurance they offer is crap - at least in this area. If they broke something, what they would have given us wouldn't have covered a third of the cost of replacing it.
The other 3 times, we moved ourselves by renting a Uhaul. We didn't get too shoddy equipment, and the price was quite reasonable.
