It's all very confusing - I still haven't taken my test what with everything else going on.... I downloaded the whole 115 page driving booklet from the TN Gov website and it totally contradicts itself... one page says within 30 days of arriving in state you need to take test, then on the other leaflet i had it said 3 months..

I was paying $600 for 6 months of liability and uninsured motorist cover only and that has gone down to $480 for 6 months with liability, uninsured mot, fire and theft and medical with State Farm - and that's on a 98 Ford Escort. Not bad at all I thought

Yep, I don't think police or officials know what is correct. I was told three different things, but the Arkanasas police told me I could drive for 6 months on my UK license and then would need to take the Arkansas test. I took the written test and was told I could only drive with a license-holder of over 21 whilst on the permit, and come back in 30 days. LOL so when I was driving hubby to work it would be on my learner's permit, and after I dropped him off at work and drove away, I would then be driving on my UK license! The actual driving test here consisted of - - drive around the block twice and park where you were before. Someone on here advised driving like a little old lady and it worked.

In any event, I switched my insruance from Farmers to State Farm last week - they said its valid on UK license, but I will take the test soon anyway. Off topic, I know, but your picture of Zoe Wanamaker reminded me of a good story.
A few years back, my younger brother was flying to Canada from the UK to take part in an ice hockey goalie camp. He was, I guess, about 12 or 13 at the time, and was travelling alone. It turned out that he was sat next to Zoe Wanamaker on the plane, and I guess she must have felt sorry for him because she plied him with sweets and chatted away to him for most of the flight.
What a nice lady

Let me restate that, $400 and change. Just got a cheque in the mail with a note from SF saying we'd been overcharged. I will never again doubt that pigs can fly.

But what is the deal with every 6 months? I hate that and much prefer the yearly renewal in the UK!
