I know ... my husband being ever so helpful did the laundry when I wasn't around .. and put all my bras in! They didn't survive!

I hope none were expensive!

One of my mottos is "life's too short for handwashing". Thank goodness I can handwashing stuff in my front loader. It's worth every penny, admittedly, a lot of them.

They were my favourite T-Shirt bras from the UK, about 90 quids worth ruined in one wash! I don't have much up top and it was the stuffing that ended up all lumpy ... not to mention the holes that suddenly appeared in the back straps!

I wanted them replaced, but hubby claimed he preferred me not to wear stuffed bras ... more like he didn't want to pay for the replacements!

I don't like handwashing either, but after some of the disasters that have come out of the top loader here I have no choice!

I didn't realise it was the washing machine that ruined all my bras I just assumed that all underwear over here was crap. Everytime I wash bras they come out a different shape and I don't buy cheap ones. I always seem to be buying new stuff and my husband can't believe how many bras and knickers I've bought since moving here, in fact I had to buy more this weekend. I hate handwashing so I'll just have to keep on buying new underwear.

Top loaders kill everything. That's where all the little frayed / torn cuffs on your sleeves, jeans, collars, etc come from too. (BTW, people like to tell you that it's the dryer's fault. Get a front loader and you'll know better.)

alot of the soap powder has bleach in it. I think the clothes rot. Also the wasking machine pound the living daylights out of the clothes. Most of the clothes I have bought here have to be washed on cold cycle. Whats that all about?

I daren't ask my husband for a front loader because my top loader is only 18 months old and had I known how crap even the new ones were I'd never have bought it. I did ask a couple of friends about washing machines and they all said top loaders were best, obviously they were wrong.

Because they don't heat the water to near-boiling, so the only option for killing bugs on standard US machines is bleach.

The alternative is to buy a front loader with the optional (and extra $$$!) water heater. They you can kill the bugs without the bleach.

I have a top loader,(although I'd much prefer a front loader!) and I wash all of my underwire bras in my machine. I've never had a problem with the central agitator and my underwire bras.....

When I bought my top loader I specifically asked the bloke at Best Buy if any of the washing machines had water heaters so I could do a boil wash. He told me he had been selling washing machines for years and had never come across one that could do a boil wash. I asked the same question at Lowes but their response was that the new european style washers had water heaters but were not as good as top loaders.

I should have trusted my instincts and bought a front loader but you live and learn as they say.

Certainly do! Research and learn on the web and never, ever take advice off shop assistant/associate/salesperson.

Didn't you wash your bras in the washing machine back in the UK? I did.

All your clothes will last longer if you had a front loader. Also, the less you use a dryer, the better. Where do you think the lint in the lint catcher comes from? Just a very fine layer of your clothing/laundry has been removed!

Never trust a salesperson who says "I've been doing X for years!" Could easily mean their knowledge is outdated from a fargone era...

Maybe the question to ask is what is the hottest temperature any of your washers can handle?

My Maytag Neptune front loader is the model with the internal water heater! It's the middle one in the range!
