Don't really see it as a problem...who usually gets a 90 day holiday, let alone 6 months? :D

It's not like they are talking about scrapping the Holiday Worker visa...which folks can't get over here anyway.

Seems like an American approach.... propose something that will inconvenience a lot of people simply to assuage the anti-immigration rabid crowd, while immigrants intent on illegal immigration will carry on as usual. Thought the Brits were smarter than that.

It's not really changing anything though, 6 months down to 90 days will stop a lot of the casual family workers coming over for short stints...don't know much about the bond though...

This would not affect Americans visiting the UK since they do not need a Visa to visit the UK.

It will affect them because with these changes they'll only get 90 days without a visa and not the 6 months they currently get.

And how many Americans get 90 days off, let alone 6 months?:)

students....not that they get the holiday workers visa to allow work, but that's not to say that some probably don't work on the side...

I don't see the UK being a vacation hot spot for many Americans for a while now seeing as the Dollar is so weak against the Pound.

Seems to make a lot of sense, all the people I know who went for longer periods were abusing the system.

I know a fair few who've come here and simply wanted to see the whole country and were having to rush because of the 90 day limit. You think the reverse is not true, especially if people use the UK as a jumping off point for the rest of Europe?

Perhaps you know very wealthy people, but all the ones I know had to supplement their savings with local work.

As far as the UK is concerned, well if they use the UK as a jumping off point whats the problem? When I lived there it was probably odd to not have at least one trip out within 90 days.

So we are talking about people of leisure and who want to leisure in one country for more than 3 months, it seems very odd to have general rules designed to cater for what must be a tiny subset.
