So? Did you use USPS? Please keep the forum posted on how long it takes. We're getting ready to send off for my daughters but I am kind of reluctant due to lead times. We will be traveling to uK at Xmas (she will use her US passport) I didn't want to send off application and not be at out US home when it's delivered.

Went USPS Priority Flat Rate. Cost more (40-odd bucks), but should be there in 5-6 business days.

Now to see if it gets kicked back when my credit card company decide its a "fraudulent purchase attempt". ;)

So, here's something.

USPS refused to take my mail.

I was attempting to use USPS Flat Rate Priority.

USPS are saying they have no record of the address I am trying to send to in their system.
In fact, They can't even bring up Durham (town OR county of) and cannot find the Post Code either.

As they cannot find the address, they are unable to guarantee delivery, or offer a Priority service, or offer any tracking.

Anyone have any clue where to go from here?

The address I am trying to send to is
------------------------------------
Her Majesty's Passport Office
OVS-D
Millburngate House
Millburngate
Durham
DH97 1PA

-------------------------------------

Try FedEx or Ups or DHl? Bound to be more expensive but a lot more efficient than USPS. Also double check address on royal mail's website?

Sorry Nutek I have never received a straight answer on how to send important documents to the UK. I have been told different things every time. Fed Ex were far worse than the post office last time I tried. "There be dragons"

Hope you find a solution soon.

UPS quoted me $130.00

Address is correct to the UK passport application guide form.

[Edit] But they DO claim to know there is a place called Durham.

I would think a lot of people are going to bump into this.

I was expecting issues... but not this particular one.

Try a different post office? There are two local to me. At one they are a bunch of idiotic jobs worths at the other they're a bit more savvy and flexible. Might be worth a try or just stump up the $130?

It's not the post office. The computer doesn't have the destination in it. If it's not in the system they won't ship there.

Pushes the total up to around 370 bucks. Seems a lot just to renew a passport.

Are you sure they got it right? See my post above. I would check address myself via Royal Mail and USPS websites from home. If you get a correct address hit go back with that info. Failing that call the UK passport office someone earlier in this thread posted a number to dial with questions.
It seems crazy they can't find Durham, suspect

I agree, but I stood next to the woman and actually watched her attempt (many times) to input the address. We even looked it up on Google, found it, and attempted to copy info over from that. Nothing doing.

I have never heard of USPS trying to pre-verify a foreign address. Are you sure that they are aware the address is in the UK? (or "Great Britain" as the USPS likes to call it :frown: )

Yep. Did it over and over (see my last post).

I can mail it, but not if I want tracking or receipt notification.

As it contains my (still valid) passport, a ton of personal info AND a signed payment agreement form with my credit card info on it (including the 3 digit code off the back), I'm kinda twitchy about sending it without some sort of tracking.

I would stump the 130$ then. Better safe than sorry.

There is a general helpline number given - 0300 222 0000 - although I wonder if they will know anything about the US postal system.
