Default change of satus from F2 to H1-B, and

Hello,
I entered in US with f2 visa (valid until the end of 2002). I got job offer, last year. My employer started h1b processing (some company attorneys conducted it). However, my employer field in bankruptcy before I got h1b. My position was closed, before I started to work ( it was in January). After that, I got message from attorney that my application for h1b is approved.(it was in February). After that, I joined a School on some graduate program, and I’m going to fill out application for f1. I would like to know Am I in valid status now (because I got this message from attorney more than 6 month ago), and how to write a portion of application that asks for current nonimmigrant status and expiration dates (because I didn't get any detail information about my H1b status)?

Thanks in advance

You should contact an attorney to sort out your status. It looks like you
fell out of status when you didn't start working for the specified
employer. It may not be terribly harmful; it's quite possible that a short
trip to your home country and a return with a new F-2 visa will fix the
problem. However, don't just leave the US; consult with an attorney first.
I don't think leaving the US in your situation would trigger the
three-year ban, but I can't be certain.
