Change from L1 to B2
My L-1 visa expires at Dec 31, 2002.
My work contract however expires Aug 23, 2002.
Can anyone advise -
a) should I change my status to e.g. B-2
b) how long it will take for me to hear the answer.

Yes, if you want to remain in the U.S. and not violate your nonimmigrant status.
