Change of Address - Oops!

I have moved twice in the last 18 months but have totally forgot to update the USCIS of my new addresses. Ahhhh! Has anyone been on the same boat what consequences were there? I'm kind of nervous as I am usually so good with keeping on top; of required admin etc.

I have no pending forms being processed by USCIS, been an LPR for 5+ years, but I am just about ready to submit my n-400 for naturalization.

Submit the most recent change as soon as possible. I have never seen anyone have any negative outcome from not having filed on time.

Thanks Noorah - just went straight to the https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange and did it easily, phew.

However, on the n-400 you have to declare the addresses you've lived at since being in the US and the dates you were there. I guess they'll then see that I only updated my address today, but the dates for he address changes son the form will be way in the past. Hope that wont be a prob!

Bear this requirement in mind if you moved state, you might have to wait another 3 months:

Show that you have lived for at least 3 months in the state or USCIS district where you apply.”

I've never heard of it being a problem.

You must have lived in the county you are currently living in at the time of application for 3 months when filing the N-400. It has always been that way.

As for being a problem, if at the time the N-400 is adjudicated, more likely than not, it will be overlooked.

^^ This, while I've not been in the OP's boat of forgetting to update my address back when I was an LPR, at my N-400 interview - the interviewer spent all of 3 seconds looking at my address history (I moved once during LPR status).

At worst, have a brief answer prepared to explain it (Busy period and I slipped, but as soon as I realized I made an immediate attempt to remedy online.etc .etc), but in the grand scheme of things have way higher priorities on a case.

You would really have to mess up an N-400 to be declined for citizenship. All the evidence and reported experience* is that the US government wants you to complete your naturalization, and so I can't imagine that the timing of reporting changes of address would warrant a second thought.

* My experience in my citizenship interview was very relaxed and IMO the interview and test questions should not be any challenge at all to a native English speaker with a vague awareness of US history and an equally vague awareness of how the government of the US is organized.

Back in 2007, my interview was an hour long, which appeared to be standard, of which 10 minutes was spent on the matter in hand. The rest was spent shooting the breeze about, in no particular order: the Falklands war, the Gulf war(s), Saddam Hussein and other Middle Eastern despots, the (then current) Afghan war and previous conflicts in Afghanistan, the method of government in the UK, the Royal family, the history of the Royal family and how it relates to the government of the UK, including the Act of Union, renovating houses, in the UK and US, rewiring work and electrical standards, plumbing, roofs, and other sundry construction topics, such as hardwood flooring, crawlspaces the joys of working in them, and how to deal with the dirt, damp, and the bugs and critters you might find down there. It was a busy hour!
