Default Ceiling's come down.

Son just back from holiday to find part of the ceiling of his basement had come down, trouble is its asbestos :curse:
Needs to get someone to remove it and put a new ceiling all across as it may have weakened the rest of it, he also needs a new roof as its 10 years old now, but getting workmen in over there is a nightmare, they say they will call but never do.
We dont have a problem with getting house repairs done over here they are glad of the work, but in America its a nightmare.

Where is this roof? Ten years old doesn't sound very old... we live in Northern New York & our roof needed replacing when we bought the house in 1997. We just had it done a couple of weeks ago; $17,000. My guess is, the old one had been on for at least 25 years. (Mind you, it is a big roof and that price included doing the barn as well.) They have shingles now that will supposedly last longer than the old-style asphalt shingles.)

Thanks forhe reply Manc's I never thought of that maybe they can help.
Robin his house is in Royal Oak Michigan and its about 11 years old now ( the roof not the house) the house was built about 1946 so its quite old even though he modernized it throughout when he bought it in 2004.

I agree on the 10-year-old roof - they usually last longer than that.

As for the ceiling, I doubt insurance would be interested - unless there was some sort of water damage or some reason it came down. But it never hurts to ask of course.

Look on Angie's List for recommendations.
www.angieslist.com

For cleaning up the asbestos you might need a restoration company like Servpro, run of the mill contractors may be able to handle the cleanup. Look for local companies that clean up fire and water damage.
