Post Cat Stevens releases first album since embracing Islam in 1970s

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061113...n_061113165022

Yusuf Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens before he became a Muslim in the 1970s, has released his first commercial album for nearly three decades -- but reviewers seemed unimpressed

"An Other Cup" went on sale in along with a single, "Heaven/Where True Love Goes", while the album was to be released in the United States on Tuesday.

With his telegenic, part-Greek good looks, Stevens scored international hits in the 1960 and 1970s with songs like "Wild World", "Moonshadow" and "My Lady d'Arbanville".

He may have cut a new disc, but I doubt he will ever be allowed to tour the U.S.

I know you are waiting for your GC and everything but you're going to have to start getting your arse out of bed a bit earlier;

Thanks. That's one of my Dad's Christmas presents sorted then.

I know every Cat Stevens song word for word thanks to my Dad playing Cat Stevens tapes when we went on our holidays. My Mum had her Cliff Richard tapes so I know all his songs too. That was in the early '70s when it took over 4 hours to get to Anglesey from Manchester and at least 10 hours to get to Cornwall in a Vauxhall Viva.

I think this release may be covered as an act of terrorism under Patriot Act II. Wonder if they will let him have a guitar at Guantanamo??

I could've sworn he brought out an album about 5 or 6 years ago for some muslim charity thingy and it bombed.

Great quote from The Daily Show, from when Yusuf had a little trouble with Homeland Security a couple of years ago..

"The US government has just struck a massive blow in the War On Terror, by arresting the guy who wrote Peace Train"

How do you embrace Islam ? ............ Do you give it a cuddle and say "There, there Islam, give us a hug" ?
