Default Carrying dogs, a NYC thing or everywhere?

Those dogs were made for walking etc.

I have noticed in NYC, lots/many/tons of, usually attractive young ladies, also some youngmen? carrying small dogs in holdalls, chintzy carry bag, large purses & back packs. Is there a new bread of NON walking dog, or have their owners gone loopy. Better still do real dogs look in envy, at other dogs being carried. Or do real dogs wet themselves laughing.

Is this happening else where in USA or maybe Europe.
Even funnier, guy? walking small dog, lady says to guy "What type of dog is that", he replied "A miniature, Dachshund". Sausage dogs are pretty small, how the hell do you get a miniature. I guess cross it with a Chawowa.
Sorry these are not dogs, large rats, maybe.

I also live in NY and it's not just the young women who carry the dogs. Just a couple of weeks ago I saw an older lady pushing two dogs in a stroller. How's that for nuts?

bloody hell come to LA, there are more clothes shops for dogs than there are humans these days, bloody Paris Hilton.. Most exclusive fashion houses, Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton have designed bags solely for the purpose of carrying small dogs around..I just hope they take frequent shits in them.

Since dogs now appear to be fashion accessories in and of themselves, I suppose you would get a lot of this kind of thing in areas where you normally expect to find a load of poseurs and wannabes.

Quite sad really

My Dad always used to classify anything which would fly at least 10 metres if you put your boot up its arse as a "rat on a lead". Give me a proper dog any day!

P.S. Sorry, Jcapulet - no offence. Pugs are really, really cute.... honest!

Do you have restaurants for cats in LA? The Meow Mix Cafe opened in 2004 here in NY. I don't know if it's still in business or not.

Those bags are gorgeous. I've been looking at teacup dogs, their really expensive but the whole dog in a designer back is too cute an opportunity to pass on. And there's so many cute accesories you can get too.

Looks like you'll end being an official dog carrying member of the Venice Beach front walk. See you there next summer!

My only problem is what the heck would I do with the dog when I go on holiday? It's not like you can just leave them in the bag! Otherwise I would definitely get one. They don't live as long as other dogs but as upsetting as that would be it does mean that you don't have to make a total lifetime commitment to having a dog. 15-20 years is too long to hold anybody's attention span in our house.

I have seen that one. What the heck is going on.
Did you ever see the guy on a scooter, with dog in back pack. The dogs head sticks out of the top, (he has made 4 holes in back pack) the legs stick out of the holes. I swear.

My summer favorite, was a girl in Union Sq, with Pink Poodle. She had actually dyed the dog pink. Oh! forgot she had shaved it bald as a babies butt, except for little pompom on the head & tail + ruffles around the legs. Boy oh boy I could hear the other dogs laughing.
