Canadians still get 6 months in US?
Hello: I am about to fly to California from Vancouver, Canada. I hope to stay 6 months visiting relatives.
1. Do the border officials still give an automatic 6 months to Canadians? 2. Am I better off just saying I want to stay 6 weeks and hope to get 6 months? 3. Or would it be better to say I want to visit relatives for 4 months and risk close questioning and raising their suspicions? Many thanks from anyone who can help . |

Rule 1 ------ Never lie to the INS Rule 2 ------ Go back to Rule 1 You should give a reasonable estimate of the time you expect to spend in the US. Bear in mind that the maximum stay you can request without a recorded entry is 6 months. Bear in mind also that the longer you ask for, the more likely they will want you to prove that you have a residence in Canada that you have no intention of abandoning. This is provable with a lease or deed to a home, with utility bills, and a letter from an employer of school indicating that you are expected back. |
